Volkswagen CC Debuts In Malaysia
Volkswagen Passengers Cars Malaysia (VPCM), a subsidiary of Volkswagen Group Malaysia, introduced the new elegant, yet dynamic comfort coupe – Volkswagen CC to the Malaysian market here this evening.
The evening was attended by some 400 people; enthusiasts of the Volkswagen brand, including the media who were extended the privilege of being the first few to preview the Volkswagen CC.
The event, which was held at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (klpac), also saw a panel of key influencers, who have helped shape and advance the local design community, sharing their insights on the world of design.
Leading the discussions were Mr Ricky Tay, Managing Director of Volkswagen Group Malaysia, Dato’ Faridah Merican, Executive Producer and Director of the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC) and Malaysia’s popular celebrity photographer Kid Chan.
The evening was complemented by a night themed “Extraordinary Design”, the event paid homage to design as the focal point in the Volkswagen CC.
Mr Ricky Tay said the car’s design elements share many things in common with performing arts and photography as it encompasses the emotional aspects of life. “
“The finer details of design are what make the Volkswagen CC so special to us. It is a car that necessitates an emotional purchase. Thus, it is a very emotional in nature,” he said.
He further added, “We are excited to be launching the Volkswagen CC as it sets itself out from among the rest as it not only carries the Volkswagen badge of assured premium standards and performance quality but boasts enhanced style and elegance to further complement its already dramatic design.
“Volkswagen has also taken the opportunity to ensure that the redesign personifies the Volkswagen ‘design DNA and provide it with the equipment befitting of its luxury pretentions. The Coupe has been consistently perfected enabling Volkswagen CC’s styling crosses over even more to the automotive luxury class,” he added.
The svelte looking Volkswagen CC has made waves across the globe, as it creates its own niche in the luxury segment as a standalone model, due to its stylish new features, designed for discerning and affluent customers who appreciate the finer things in life.
The Volkswagen CC replaces the earlier prefix of Passat CC. Klaus Bischoff, Head of Design for the Volkswagen Brand, re-designed the car to provide more precision and to embrace the signature Volkswagen ‘design DNA’. As a result, the Volkswagen CC offers an even more sophisticated and elegant yet dynamic overall experience for its owner.
“Given the Passat CC’s success, it’s clear that many customers like the exclusivity of its concept. The new CC continues as a model that satisfies those with very individual and premium needs,” added Mr Ricky Tay.
When the car made its debut in 2008, it became a favourite among the world’s four-door coupés and from this niche, a new segment quickly grew. To date, nearly 320,000 people around the globe have chosen the Coupe with the stylish lines of a sports car.
In parallel, the Volkswagen’s styling also made an excellent impression with the experts: in 2009 alone – in its first full year on the market – the Passat CC won the ‘iF Product Design Award’ (iF Industrie Forum Hannover), the ‘red dot Design Award’ (Design Centre of Nordrhein Westphalia, Essen) and the Australian ‘Design Award’ (Australian International Design Awards, Sydney).
In Malaysia, this design language has been well accepted by both consumers and the media that it was successfully voted the overall winner of the prestigious NST/MAYBANK Car of the Year Awards 2010. And to confirm its unique design, the car also bagged the “Best Design” award in the same presentation.
The new Volkswagen CC made its global debut last November at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
The Volkswagen CC replaces the earlier prefix of Passat CC, creating a niche for itself and detaches from the Passat to an independent model series with its own identity and name.
The 1.8-litre TSI engine of the Volkswagen CC develops an impressive 160PS at 5,000rpm. The car, which is capable of churning out 250Nm of torque between 1,500 and 4,200rpm, accelerates to 100km/h in just 8.5 seconds, while hitting a top speed of 223km/h. The four-cylinder direct-injection turbocharged four-cylinder engine is exceptionally fuel-efficient with a combined efficiency of 7.2 litres/100km. The engine’s combined CO2 emission output is 167g/km. This award-winning engine is mated to a 7-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) that offers driving fun and driving performance. The car is completed by the Adaptive Chassis Control (DCC).
In front, the eye is drawn to the new designs of the radiator grille, bi-xenon headlights and bonnet. The LED daytime running lights are integrated in the headlight housings. Even more than on the previous model, the entire area of the new front bumper, headlights and radiator grille exhibits clean lines that correspond 1:1 to Volkswagen’s ‘design DNA’ styling. This DNA is marked by such characteristics as an emphasis on horizontal lines and a concise harmony of the headlights and radiator grille. The latter is no longer designed as a separate V framed by elements in the body colour; rather it forms a visually continuous, charismatic band together with the headlights. Despite its independent design, the front end makes a clear statement that the ‘comfort coupé’ belongs to a global brand. The Volkswagen CC in Malaysia comes with 17” ‘Phoenix’ alloy wheels, bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights and LED taillights.
The Volkswagen CC is 4,802mm long; its wheelbase is 2,710mm. With a width of 1,855mm (without mirrors), the car’s competitors are upper mid-class vehicles, based on its dimensions. The height of the four-door coupé is 1,421mm.
The interior itself has a character that is as dynamic as it is elegant. Also new is the CLIMATRONIC control panel. The interior of the Volkswagen CC has an especially elegant look at night with the ambience pack. Lighting strips are integrated into the fine wood or metallic accents in the doors. Its brightness can be continuously varied by the interior lighting controls. Additionally, the new Volkswagen CC in equipped with a multi-function leather steering wheel with control for DSG, MFD and radio, electrically adjustable front seats, driver’s seat with memory, electric parking brake with auto-hold function, Nappa leather seats and the RCD 510 touch-screen radio with 6 CD changer and 8 speakers.
Volkswagen further has refined the safety and comfort features for this vehicle. The new Volkswagen CC comes with assistance systems that can detect driver fatigue, known as ‘Rest Assist’ system. The car comes with 6 airbags and this is complemented by Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS) and Brake Assist (BA). Additionally, the car comes equipped with a tyre pressure monitoring system, rain sensor and auto dimming rear view mirror.
Volkswagen CC Comfort and Sport
The Volkswagen CC comes in two versions – Comfort and Sport. The Sport offers additional features including 18” ‘Interlagos’ alloy wheels, “KESSY” keyless entry and starting system, “DYNAUDIO” Confidence 600W premium sound system with 10 speakers, panoramic tilting glass roof, “Rear Assist” rear view camera and brushed dark aluminium decorative inserts for dashboard and door trim panels.
The Volkswagen CC is on sale and is available at all Volkswagen authorised dealerships nationwide.
It is available in Candy White, Light Brown Metallic, Black Oak Brown Metallic, Reflex Silver Metallic, Icelandic Grey Pearl and Deep Black Pearl and carries a price tag of RM225,888 for the Comfort version and RM243,888 for the Sport version (NSP).
